We are not producing enough educated, highly
skilled workers to compete in the global econo-
my, which threatens our nation’s economic com-
petitiveness. The American public seems
unaware of the severity of our nation’s edu-
cation crisis and its impact on business.
The skills students need to enter and advance in
the work force today are far beyond what were
needed 20 years ago. The skills required to
succeed in a global economy has drastically
changed. Many teachers and counselors are find-
ing it difficult to keep up with the new information
and trends to pass on to students. Most schools
continue to struggle to effectively reach parents.
Much of the information reported in the media is
fragmented -- diminishing the urgency and se-
verity of the classroom and workforce crisis.
Laying the Groundwork
The 21st Century Success Series helps families
understand the “big picture” of the changes
and challenges in the workforce and classroom.
Businesses help define the 21st century skills in
the workforce -- such as, problem solving, critical
thinking, collaboration, work ethic, etc. -- and
educators explain their methods of teaching
those skills in the classroom and how parents can
help at home. This is a pivotal time in our nation’s
history. Join us in our unprecedented multime-
dia statewide effort to inform the public on
what it takes to prepare our future workforce for
success in the 21st century.
